Major Victories Secured in the FIFA Womens World Cup Qualifiers

Match day three of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers featured some important wins, including those by the Dutch against France and the Danes in Sweden.

League A

Group 1 – Sweden 1-2 Denmark, Serbia 0-6 Italy
Group 2 – Netherlands 2-1 France, Poland 2-3 Republic of Ireland
Group 3 – England 1-0 Spain, Iceland 1-0 Ukraine
Group 4 – Norway 5-0 Slovenia, Germany 5-1 Austria

Lauren Hemp’s early goal was enough for England to see off Spain, Iceland – who the Lionesses will visit on Saturday – defeated Ukraine with Alexandra Jóhannsdóttir’s goal at the start of the second half.

Netherlands knocked France off the top spot with an Esmee Brugts winner after an own goal by Daphne van Domselaar had cancelled out the opener from Renee van Asten.

Janni Thomsen grabbed a stoppage-time winner as Denmark came from behind to win 2-1 away to a dominant Sweden.

Marissa Sheva scored the telling goal as the Republic of Ireland got off the mark with three points in Poland.

Liverpool-bound Vivien Endemann was among the goals as Germany overcame Austria, Ada Hegerberg scored late in each half as Norway put five past Slovenia, while six different players got on the scoresheet for Italy in Serbia.

League B

Group 1 – Wales 4-0 Albania, Czechia 5-0 Montenegro
Group 2 – Northern Ireland 4-0 Malta, Switzerland 3-1 Türki̇ye
Group 3 – Finland 4-2 Slovakia, Latvia 0-3 Portugal
Group 4 – Scotland 1-1 Belgium, Israel 6-0 Luxembourg

Keri Halliday starred as Northern Ireland put four past Malta, scoring her first two goals and adding an assist. Hannah Cain’s brace helped Wales beat Albania 4-0 in Wrexham.

Switzerland saw off Türkiye despite an equaliser, with a quickfire double from Aurélie Csillag and Viola Calligaris.

Kika Nazareth’s brace helped Portugal to a 3-0 result against Latvia, Vital Katz hit a hat-trick as Israel thrashed Luxembourg.

League C

Group 1 – Estonia 2-1 Liechtenstein, Lithuania 2-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Group 2 – Bulgaria 1-3 Kosovo, Gibraltar 0-1 Croatia
Group 3 – North Macedonia 0-5 Hungary, Andorra 1-3 Azerbaijan
Group 4 – Faroe Islands 2-3 Greece
Group 5 – Moldova 0-0 Cyprus
Group 6 –
Armenia 0-3 Belarus

Rimante Jonusaite scored both goals for Lithuania in 11 second-half minutes to see off Bosnia and Herzegovina, ten-player Estonia edged Liechtenstein with Katrin Kirpu’s late decider, Andorra took the lead against Azerbaijan but ended up losing 3-1.
