Chelsea and Manchester United wrapped up their group stages unbeaten on Friday, clinching top spots in their groups and securing places in the World Sevens Football London Edition semi-finals.

Day 2 delivered another goal-heavy display, with 41 goals across six matches, taking the tournament goal total to 79 heading into the final day. New records were set as Everton beat Leicester 8-2 and Manchester United matched that scoreline against Spurs, surpassing the previous nine-goal match record from Day 1.

Manchester United’s Melvine Malard and Jess Park now lead the Golden Boot race with four goals each following standout performances during Group 2 action. At the same time, Chelsea’s Aggie Beever-Jones and Tottenham’s Signe Gaupset sit top of the assist leaderboard with four apiece. Beever-Jones has emerged as one of the stars of the tournament so far, contributing seven goals across Chelsea’s unbeaten run.

Crowds continued to grow on Day 2, with 2,850 fans, close to the 3,000-seat capacity, filling the Gtech Community Stadium, enjoying the fast-paced, festival atmosphere of the London Edition. Manchester United’s Jess Park praised the freedom the format gives players, saying, “I think Sevens is just enjoyment after the season. We can just enjoy small-sided games and have fun with it.”

Chelsea Head Coach Sonia Bompastor also highlighted the unique energy around the competition. “It’s great for the players to remind them that football is about having fun and enjoying the game,” she said. “I’m really proud of the players with the way they celebrate the goals, the way they walk out on the pitch.”

Everton Women Head Coach Scott Phelan echoed those thoughts after guiding his side into the semi-finals. “The majority of it is about enjoyment and letting the players express themselves and enjoy football in its purest form,” he said.

Aston Villa forward Rachel Daly added: “It’s a bit different, isn’t it? We are so used to the same thing with 11-a-side, so it’s good for the team culture and the team chemistry.”

Semi-final action begins on Saturday as Chelsea face Aston Villa at 11am before Manchester United takes on Everton at noon for a place in the W7F London Edition final at 2.30pm.

Matches are live on Sky Sports, or on DAZN outside of the UK.
