England Women were beaten 2-1 by ten-player Brazil in front of 37,460 in the friendly international at the Etihad Stadium.

England were given an early warning as Ludmila pulled a shot wide, before Zaneratto broke through the middle and tucked away the opening goal past Khiara Keating.

Zaneratto soon added an assist, as Dudinha’s effort went in off the front post.

Brazil were down to 10 players when captain Angelina was dismissed as the last player for taking down Ella Toone, Alex Greenwood hitting the crossbar from the resulting free kick and Jess Carter unable to direct the rebound on goal.

Toone shot narrowly wide and Keira Walsh volleyed just over the top close to half-time.

Beth Mead won a penalty five minutes after the restart when brought down by Zaneratto, with Georgia Stanway slotting the spot-kick into the bottom corner past Lorena.

Duda blasted a long-rage effort narrowly wide, while Aggie Beever-Jones saw her shot deflected wide.

Alessia Russo got under a header right in front of goal, Esme Morgan went close from outside the box and Stanway smacked a shot against the bar.
