Peterborough United Women and Portishead both defeated higher division opposition in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup 1st Round Proper.

Fourth-tier Peterborough United knocked out third tier Real Bedford 4-1, as Jess Rousseau hit a hat-trick.

Portishead Town also overcame a similar difference in division to edge out Billericay Town. Phoebe Tate scoring the dramatic stoppage-time winner, after which both sides saw red.

Sutton United edged out league rivals Brentford after a 1-1 deadlock, the first time the Bees have failed to win this term.

Chatham Town went through 4-2 in the shoot-out after sharing six goals at AFC Wimbledon, Ponteland United levelled at Bolton Wanderers before eliminating them on spot-kicks.

Bridgwater United were taken all the way to sudden-death penalties before seeing off Southern League Wycombe Wanderers, Sporting Khalsa similarly caused the exit of Loughborough Lightning, also Oxford United away to Hashtag United.

Eastern League Stevenage pushed Norwich City hard but eventually lost out 4-3 to a 90th-minute Natasha Snelling volley in off the underside of the crossbar.

Cambridge United needed a second goal from Abby Jackson to overcome East Midlands League side University of Nottingham.

Wolves nearly squandered a two-goal lead against Rugby Borough, with Alex Brooks tipping the ball onto the Wanderers’ bar in the 90th minute as they held on for a 2-1 victory.

Torquay United had a record crowd of 1,010 but bowed out 6-0 to Exeter City, who play two tiers above.

Middlesbrough saw off Cheadle in Saturday’s televised tie, Becky Ferguson converting a penalty at the end of the first half, Olivia Watt netting a volley, with Lauren Robson and Erin Nelson scoring in stoppage time.
