Wales Women fell to a 2-1 defeat after a late goal by the Matildas in the friendly international at Cardiff City Stadium.

Katrina Gorry rattled the Welsh crossbar early on, and in her final game for Wales Jess Fishlock lost her balance when she might have had a chance to score, following the cross from Ceri Holland.

Courtney Nevin’s free-kick for Australia went straight in, with Sam Kerr attempting to get a touch in front of goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel.

Wales equalised before the hour mark, as Mared Griffiths marked her first start with an angled clip over goalkeeper Tegan Micah.

But the Matildas scored the decider in the 85th minute, with Kyra Cooney-Cross delivering for Caitlin Foord to finish.
