The race for a possible SWPL promotion play-off heated up after Renfrew won the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship with two games to go.
Renfrew, who have only lost two games all season, secured the title, following a decision by Ayr United to forfeit their tie.
Renfrew spent a large part of the campaign chasing Falkirk but imperious form since January, especially at home, drove an unstoppable title charge which will see them crowned at New Western Park after their match against Bonnyrigg Rose on Sunday 10 May.
In the race for the second spot which comes with a SWPL play-off opportunity, Rossvale moved within two points of second-placed Falkirk after a 90th minute winner by Caitlin Crean at the Falkirk stadium to set up a thrilling conclusion to the season. Falkirk had scored first via Liv Murphy but Rossvale’s top scorer Sarah Petherick equalised with a screamer before half time.
Armadale Thistle’s attempt to avoid the relegation play-off was boosted as they came from behind to beat Forfar Farmington 3-1 at home to lift themselves off the foot of the table. They host now-bottom Morton on the final day of the season in what could be a six-pointer.
Meanwhile, the top two in the Barclays Scottish Women’s League One title race both dropped points, with Dunipace taking a 3-0 victory from second-placed St Mirren and leaders Elgin City held 1-1 in Ayrshire by Cambusdoon. St Mirren are now three points behind and travel to Elgin next Sunday. Westdyke and Queen of the South played a goalless draw in Aberdeenshire.
Arbroath returned to the top of the SWFL North division with a dramatic 4-3 win over Grampian, to leapfrog the visitors and leave the table with a single point separating the top three sides. Huntly in third also picked up a 5-2 win against Aberdeen City to remain a point behind.
Edinburgh South moved to the top of SWFL East with a 5-0 win over Murieston United, and Bishopton have all but secured SWFL Central/West with a 5-0 win over Dumbarton to remain three points ahead at the top with a game in hand over challengers Cumbernauld United.
