Ipswich Town Women Stun Leaders to Secure Their Safety

Ipswich Town Women stunned Barclays WSL 2 leaders Birmingham City with an early treble, ending their relegation worries, as Charlton Athletic took over at the top.

Ipswich Town secured their safety with a remarkable win away to morning leaders Birmingham City.

Ipswich stunned Birmingham with three goals in the first 15 minutes, as Kit Graham struck twice from 25 yards and Princess Ademiluyi headed home in between.

Lotta Lindström hit the crossbar for the Blues and her side forced two goal-line clearances in quick succession, but they now face a huge final match away to Charlton on Saturday, 2 May.

Charlton Athletic drew 2-2 away to Southampton to head into the final day on top by a single point.

Jess Simpson turned in a Michaela McAlonie cross to give the Saints the lead but in the 70th minute, substitute Gillian Kenney brought the Addicks level as the hosts were unable to clear a corner.

Late drama started as Charlotte Newsham won an 89th-minute penalty, and Emma Bissell came off the bench to convert it.

But the lead was short-lived as Atlanta Primus tapped home from almost on the line for a 2-2 draw.

Crystal Palace took the points 2-1 at Sunderland to move level on points with one of their title rivals, Birmingham City.

Annabel Blanchard put the Eagles in front after 20 minutes, Ashleigh Weerden making it 2-0, assisted by Abbie Larkin.

Three minutes after the restart, Katy Watson replied with the help of Katie Kitching.

Bristol City came from behind to beat Newcastle United in added time.

Beth Lumsden opened the scoring for Newcastle, but Ella Powell set up Rio Hardy to equalise before the break.

Jessie Gale scored a 99th-minute winner for Bristol City from Sophie Ingle’s corner.

Portsmouth were condemned to a last-place finish after a loss to Nottingham Forest at Fratton Park.

Georgia Brougham put Forest ahead late in the first half with a header from a Chloe Mustaki corner.

Durham defeated Sheffield United 2-1 to leapfrog them into 10th spot.

Mariana Speckmaier fired Durham in front after 25 minutes, Dee Bradley doubled the advantage from a Beth Hepple corner by the hour mark.

Amy Andrews gave Sheffield late hope with a penalty after Mollie Rouse was fouled by Michaela Foster.
