Wales Women were held to a frustrating draw by hosts Montenegro in a World Cup qualifying League B group game.
Hannah Cain converted a 40th-minute penalty for Wales after a foul by Darija Djukic on Ella Powell in the box.
Medina Desic shot inches wide for the hosts seconds after the interval, while Sladjana Bulatovic was judged to have hooked Elise Hughes’ effort out of the goalmouth before the ball crossed the line. Cain sliced the rebound wide and also missed a good opportunity from a cross by Ffion Morgan.
Hughes saw her header tipped over the crossbar by goalkeeper Ajsa Kalac, but Wales were pegged back with 11 minutes to go.
Lily Woodham handed the ball to Desic, and her cross was turned in by Jasna Djokovic under pressure from Esther Morgan.
Rhian Wilkinson’s side had looked set to only require a draw against Czechia at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday to win the group, but now they must take all three points in the decider for the top spot.
