Sunderland Women Get a Goalscoring Midfielder in Atlanta Primus

Sunderland Women have signed Jamaican international Atlanta Primus, who joins after the expiration of her contract with Southampton.

After representing England up to U-19 level, she switched allegiance to the Reggae Girlz, earning 21 caps to date and helping secure a draw against France in the 2023 World Cup.

Starting her career at Chelsea, she went to California State University and scored 25 goals in 72 games, before a spell with LA Galaxy.

After moving to London City Lionesses, Primus scored 15 goals in 58 games, and during her time with Southampton, she also had a loan spell at Charlton.

Primus told safc.com: “I am super excited to be here because it has been a long time coming. I can’t wait to be out on the pitch with the girls and I am looking forward to the season. It is a great time to be a part of this club and the backing Bay Collective will help take us to new levels so I am looking forward to what the future holds.”

Technical Director Rehanne Skinner commented: “Every signing we make has to fit our long-term vision and Atlanta ticks all the boxes. She brings quality, a hunger to succeed and vast experience within the league we think will add huge value. This is another important step in strengthening the squad as we continue to move the club forward.”

Head Coach Mel Reay added: “Anyone who has followed the WSL2 over the last few years will be well aware of Atlanta’s quality and ability. She’s a versatile midfielder with a real eye for goal and bags of experience at this level, making her a player who can contribute significantly both on and off the pitch. She has the leadership qualities that will help raise standards within the squad and drive us forward this season.”
