Spurs Women climbed to fourth place in the Barclays WSL table, while Aston Villa staged a comeback to see off Brighton.

Aston Villa 2-1 Brighton & Hove Albion
Chelsea 5-0 West Ham United
Manchester City 2-0 Everton
Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Leicester City
Liverpool 0-0 London City Lionesses

Tottenham Hotspur narrowly beat Leicester City to draw level on points with third-placed Arsenal. City conceded an own-goal off a corner kick, as goalkeeper Jenna Clark could only push the ball over the line. Clare Hunt hit the post from close range after Clark saved Beth England’s header in the closing stages.

Manchester City defeated Everton to stay top by a six-point margin. Man City’s pressure paid off when Kerolin broke into the box and her effort was deflected over the diving goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan. The Toffees did have the ball in the net, but a foul was given against goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita. Another blow for Everton was the stretchering off of Katja Snoeijs. Vivianne Miedema took down a ball from Khadija Shaw to sweep City into a 2-0 lead after the hour mark.

Aston Villa defeated Brighton to leapfrog them in the league table. Fuka Tsunoda fired Brighton in front after goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo’s clearance went straight to her. Villa’s Rachel Daly hit the crossbar with a header but after the break did bury a similar chance of Lucia Kendall’s free kick. Moments later, Villa had turned the match around, as Kirsty Hanson put them in the lead with a strike from the edge of the box.

Chelsea brushed aside West Ham after taking the lead inside the first minute, when Ellie Carpenter’s cross was turned into her own net by Yu Endo. The advantage was doubled when Lauren James closed down goalkeeper Kinga Szemik enough to see the attempted clearance rebound into the net. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s effort was directed by Alyssa Thompson, Sandy Baltimore broke into the box and rifled the ball into the top corner. Baltimore got her second from the penalty spot.

Winless Liverpool picked up their fourth point of the season with a goalless draw at home against London City. The result leaves the seventh-placed Lionesses behind Aston Villa on goal difference.
