
Spain Women held on to an early lead despite a late red card to defeat the USWNT during Saturday’s International Friendlies.
Spain, ranked at the top of the world, defeated second-placed USA 2-0, scoring both goals within the first fifteen minutes in front of a crowd of 19,220 at Audi Field.
Patri Guijarro fired home from outside the box to give Spain a third-minute lead, and Eva Navarro doubled the advantage by putting away a cross from Salma Paralluelo.
Sophia Wilson had the ball in the net for the USA early in the second half, but a VAR review found her to be in an offside position.
Another VAR check did go Wilson’s way as she won a penalty after a challenge by Natalia Ramos, but Lily Yohannes’ spot-kick was saved by Adriana Nanclares.
Spain finished with 10 players after a stoppage-time dismissal of Athenea del Castillo, who was shown a red card for violent conduct following a VAR decision.

Luany scored the first goal in the 27th minute, Geyse followed after Maiara Niehues headed on a corner, and Angelina made it 3-0 in stoppage time.
Maricel Pereyra replied for Argentina just six minutes into the second half, but Agustina Vargas was sent off in added time for violent conduct.
France netted nine times against Latvia, with eight different scorers.
Kadidiatou Diani opened the scoring after 7 minutes, Anaële Le Moguédec bagged a first-half brace, Melvine Malard, Grace Geyoro, and Océane Hurtré also found the net for a 6-0 interval lead.
Kelly Gago, Clara Mateo, and Marie-Antoinette Katoto added one each after the restart.
