England U-20 international full-back Sophie Harwood has signed her first professional contract with Arsenal Women.
She came off the bench in pre-season friendlies against Spurs and West Ham and has been a regular member of the matchday squads in the WSL and UWCL.
Her appearances for the Young Lionesses already total 34, and she captained England at both U-16 and U-17 levels.
Harwood told www.arsenal.com: “Signing my first professional contract for Arsenal is a proud and special moment for me. Arsenal have paved the way for women’s football for so long, and to be able to play at such a historic club means so much to me.”
Technical Director Jodie Taylor added: “Sophie has impressed since joining the club and has settled into our first-team environment extremely well. We’re looking forward to supporting her continued development as she takes this next step in her career.”
Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “We’re thrilled that Sophie has put pen to paper on professional terms with Arsenal. Sophie has shown great playmaking ability and versatility in the full-back position, and with hard work and dedication, we believe she has high potential in the professional game.”
