Sheffield United Women drew 1-1 with Newcastle United in Barclays WSL 2, following a quick exchange of goals at the end of the first half.

Simone Sherwood put Sheffield ahead on 44 minutes, finishing off Mollie Rouse’s goal-bound shot from almost on the line.

Emily Murphy quickly equalised, controlling a Jordan Nobbs cross before firing past the goalkeeper.

Molly Pike had a strike turned over the bar by Sheffield keeper Sian Rogers, while Newcastle’s Anna Tamminen had to react similarly to deny Amy Andrews.

Connie Schofield hit the far post for Sheffield, who had to survive late pressure from visitors to hold onto the point.

The result put the Blades level on points with ninth-placed Durham and three off the bottom, and the Magpies up to fourth spot, two points short of Birmingham City in second.
