Newcastle United Women have signed Scotland international forward Martha Thomas from Tottenham Hotspur.

The forward – who has scored 21 goals in 52 appearances for her country – joins the Magpies for an undisclosed fee after netting 13 times in 66 appearances for Spurs.

Thomas spent the second half of last season on loan at Liverpool, and before joining Spurs, she played two seasons with Manchester United.

After playing in the US collegiate system with the Charlotte 49ers, the 30-year-old joined Le Havre, then moved to West Ham, where he scored 10 goals in 33 matches.

Thomas said: “I’m really excited, it’s a really big club to be able to play for and I just can’t wait to get started. I want to compete and play for the best teams.

“Team culture is really important to me and I think I bring some good attributes on that to help the team in the dressing room and push standards on the pitch.”

Manager, Tanya Oxtoby, said: “Martha is a proven striker both in the WSL and internationally, so we are looking forward to welcoming her into the group.

“She is a physical striker and adds outstanding work rate to the squad. She has shown that she has the ability to score all kinds of goals, while also having the link and create the play too.”

Grec Departs

Meanwhile, Newcastle confirmed today that defender Malgorzata Grec has left the club by mutual consent.

After joining the Magpies last summer, the Polish international went onto make seven appearances in all competitions.
