Manchester United Women have confirmed that German goalkeeper Janina Leitzig has agreed to join the club.
She spent the past three-and-a-half seasons competing in the WSL with Leicester City and was named their Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year in 2023.
Breaking into senior football with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, she then moved to Bayern Munich and played in the Champions League.
Internationally, she has been capped by Germany up to the U-20 level.
Leitzig told manutd.com: “It is a real honour to be a Manchester United player. I’m ready to bring all of my experience of competing at the highest level to help the team to have a successful season.
“I am joining a really excellent group of goalkeepers; everyone has told me about the great environment that they have created. I cannot wait to push all together to maintain the high performance standards that this club deserves.”
Matt Johnson, director of women’s football, said: “Janina has proven her ability to compete at the highest level. Her experience and quality make her an excellent addition to our goalkeeping group.
“She has performed in elite sporting environments throughout her career and has the personality and determination to succeed at Manchester United.”
