Lichfield City were crowned champions of the West Midlands League Division 1 North after a 1-0 victory away to title rivals Walsall at the Bescot Stadium on Friday.
It was Lichfield’s last game and they just had to avoid defeat to move out of Walsall’s reach, while the Saddlers needed a win to maintain hopes of taking top spot in their final match.
Shelbie Cartwright scored the goal after 70 minutes from the penalty spot but was shown a second yellow card deep into added time.
While Lichfield go up to the West Midlands Premier next season, Walsall will be looking to go one better than their second-place finishes of the last two campaigns.
