Lionesses legend Keira Walsh is supporting a Cruelty Free International challenge to help save millions of dogs, cats and other animals from laboratory tests.

She is backing Cruelty Free International’s Move for the Millions annual fundraising event, which aims to raise awareness of the 192 million animals used in scientific experiments around the world every year.

The Chelsea midfielder is a renowned supporter of animal welfare and she is a co-parent of Narla, a West Highland White Terrier.

Walsh said: “I’m honoured to support Move for the Millions, and join such an important cause. It is unthinkable that 192 million animals are used in experiments every year, despite there being many reliable non-animal methods available. Ending animal testing will be a global team effort, and this is the perfect way to help Cruelty Free International change the lives of millions of animals around the world.”

Participants are asked to run, walk or cycle 192km during the month of June, either individually or as part of a team, and raise £192 each to create a cruelty-free future for animals in laboratories. Walsh runs about 10km per match, on average, with the Lionesses team as a whole covering over 110km in 90 minutes.

Cruelty Free International CEO, Michelle Thew, said: “I’m so excited that Keira is supporting ‘Move for the Millions’. Her passion, energy and leadership on the pitch sets an example to all of us, and I hope that she inspires other people to take part.”
