Chelsea Women Secure Three Big Barclays WSL Points

Chelsea Women beat Arsenal by the only goal in front of over 19,000 at Stamford Bridge in the Barclays WSL.

Chelsea edged Arsenal 1-0 to move up to third position and leave the Gunners with five points and just two goals from their four games.

Chelsea took the lead approaching half-time after Steph Catley lost possession to Melvine Malard.

Malard set up Keira Walsh, and although Anneke Borbe made the save, Alyssa Thompson was on hand to bury the loose ball.

Tottenham’s 4-0 defeat of Aston Villa put them second in the table.

Spurs finally made the breakthrough in the 55th minute after 20 attempts at goal, with Signe Gaupset’s cross touched by Akane Okuma only to Victoria Pelova for a tap-in.

Pelova got her second via the bar after Drew Spence found her in space. Caitlin Dijkstra headed in a Julie Blakstad cross for the third, while Cathinka Tandberg was also on target after Okuma parried Matilda Vinberg’s strike.

Manchester United claimed their first win of the league season to leapfrog visitors West Ham in the table.

Elisabeth Terland headed Man United in front from Anna Sandberg’s corner inside 10 minutes.

Andrea Medina doubled the advantage in the last 20 minutes on the second attempt, after good work by Jess Park.

West Ham pulled one back from the spot in added time, Viviane Asseyi scoring after being brought down by Sandberg.

Birmingham City and Crystal Palace shared six goals in a thrilling contest.

Birmingham struck in the first minute after Lee Geum-Min played in Oceane Hurtre to score. Shanade Hopcroft got on the end of a long free-kick into the box to equalise, only for Hurtre to swiftly add her second of the match from an acute angle.

Palace were level again after 70 minutes, Sophie Baggaley tipped Sierra Enge’s effort onto the crossbar but Bethany England was left with a simple tap-in.

Lexi Lloyd-Smith took advantage of a defensive slip to advance into the box and fire Palace in front. Suzu Amano then squared it at 3-3, aided by a big deflection.

Liverpool ended a bad run of results against Everton at Anfield with a comfortable victory.

Beata Olsson glanced a header from a Natalia Ramos corner past Courtney Brosnan to give Liverpool a fourth-minute lead.

It was four minutes from the end of the 90 when the points were safe, Cornelia Kapocs scoring with a shot on the turn.
