Chelsea Women edge seven-goal thriller with Aston Villa to move up to second place in the Barclays WSL.

Chelsea 4-3 Aston Villa
West Ham United 1-1 London City Lionesses
Leicester City 0-1 Brighton & Hove Albion

Chelsea eventually came out on top in a dramatic encounter against Aston Villa.

A seesaw six-goal first half saw Villa strike first inside two minutes through Chasity Grant.

The Blues hit back with three goals in a seven-minute spell as Sam Kerr equalised, Naomi Girma got the last touch on a Lauren James effort before James scored from outside the box.

Kirsty Hanson replied with a quick brace as Lynn Wilms completed a hat-trick of assists.

Hanson hit the post from 20 yards, but from a similar distance in the last 10 minutes Chelsea’s Sjoeke Nusken scored from Kerr’s set-up.

Bottom-but-one West Ham grabbed a valuable point against London City, who snapped a run of three straight defeats.

The Lionesses grabbed a first-half lead on the break when Freya Godfrey played the ball to Jana Fernández, who fired it into the net from just outside the corner of the six-yard box.

Oona Siren brought the Hammers back on level terms after the hour mark with a volley following a set-piece.

Brighton climbed three places to sixth on goal difference with a narrow win at basement side Leicester City.

Kiko Seike scored the only goal from a counter-attack early in the second half, assisted by Rosa Kafaji.

The result leaves the Foxes four points adrift at the foot of the table.
