Cardiff City Women beat Swansea City 5-4 on penalties in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup Final after wiping out a three-goal deficit.

Chloe Chivers got the opening goal for the Swans – in front of a crowd of 1,234 at Newport County FC – with a cross from the touchline that beat everyone and flew in off the far post.

Swansea looked to be in control after a quickfire double early in the second half, when Aimee Deacon and Maisie Miller both found the net.

The fightback began in the 65th minute when Fiona Barry got in behind to score, and there was soon just one goal in it as Mackenzie Olden’s corner was headed home by Shannon Evans.

With 11 minutes left of the 90, Barry doubled her tally, aided by a wicked deflection, eventually sending the tie to penalties.

Cardiff goalkeeper Ceryn Chamberlain saved Stacey John’s penalty, and Megan Bowen stepped up to score the winner, making the Bluebirds Bute Energy Welsh Cup champions for the fifth consecutive season.
