A dramatic finale to the 2025 Copa América Femenina saw Marta level deep into added time when Brazil beat Colombia in sudden death penalties.
Linda Caicedo opened the scoring for Colombia in Ecuador, Angelina equalising nine minutes from the spot into first-half added time.
Tarciane’s own-goal restored the lead, tournament top scorer Amanda Gutierres levelled and even though Mayra Ramirez had Colombia ahead for a third time after 88 minutes, Marta’s 96th-minute goal from distance forced extra-time.
Marta’s second had Brazil leading for the first time but Leicy Santos hit back as the clash was taken to a shoot-out.
Brazil goalkeeper Lorena saved twice, Jorelyn Carabali having no luck for Colombia with the 13th spot-kick, after which Luany converted to secure the trophy.
The third-place match was also won 5-4 on penalties in favour of Argentina over Uruguay.
Both finalists qualified for the 2028 Olympics in the United States.
