Verena Hanshaw has returned home after 16 years playing abroad, completing a switch from West Ham Women to Austria Wien.
Hanshaw has signed a two-year contract with the Violets, bringing with her vast experience, including 131 caps for Austria.
The full-back joined West Ham in January 2025 and made 21 appearances, after spells at clubs such as SC Freiburg, SC Sand, FFC Frankfurt—where she played a total of 114 games—and AS Roma.
Hanshaw told fk-austria.at: “I’m absolutely delighted to be returning to my homeland after 16 years. I’ve followed a few games and am extremely excited about the fans. The atmosphere has always been fantastic, and that makes my anticipation even greater to soon be playing here in the stadium.”
Head coach Stefan Kenesei said: “With Verena Hanshaw, we have succeeded in making a top-class transfer. She brings enormous international experience from various countries, including the English Women’s Super League, as well as the Austrian national team, and has been one of the most consistent players at the highest level for years.
