Arsenal Women Deny Man Utd Victory at the Death

Arsenal Women extended their unbeaten Barclays WSL run to a record 20 matches after a very late equaliser against Manchester United.

Manchester United had to settle for just their first point of the season instead of all three, as Arsenal pulled level in the final moments.

Eva Olid’s side made the breakthrough going into the last quarter of the match at the Emirates, as Julia Zigiotti Olme intercepted Georgia Stanway’s pass toward Steph Catley and fired home past goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez.

Phallon Tullis-Joyce got down to block a strike from Caitlin Foord and got behind a 25-yard effort from Chloe Kelly.

But deep into added time, Leah Williamson’s cross was volleyed home at the far post by Smilla Holmberg.

Chelsea moved on to seven points from three matches with a comfortable victory over Birmingham City.

Lexi Potter fired Chelsea ahead after just seven minutes, following Sophie Baggaley’s parry from a close-range Alyssa Thompson touch.

Chelsea’s Sjoeke Nusken saw her header bounce off the bar, and Alysa Thompson was denied a penalty, while City’s Wilma Leidhammar slid in but could only direct the ball straight to goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.

The advantage was finally doubled in the last 20 minutes, as moments after Suzu Hamano went close for Birmingham, Melvin Mallard pounced on a short header by Millie Turner to score.

Charlton Athletic suffered a third straight defeat, as London City left The Valley with a 4-1 result, their second win in three games.

Izzy Goodwin scored twice in quick succession for the Lionesses, with Alexia Putellas setting up the first and Daniela Argués the second.

Jodie Hutton pulled one back for the Addicks approaching half-time with a spectacular volley that went in off the underside of the crossbar.

But Jana Fernández restored the two-goal cushion before the break, helped by a deflection off Charlton’s Ellie Mason following Kadidiatou Diani’s cross.

Nicole Anyomi further extended the lead after Danielle van de Donk forced a save from Sophie Whitehouse.
