Sunday saw another 4-0 friendly win for the United States over Ireland, played in temperatures reaching 30C in Cincinnati.

Carla Ward’s depleted side struggled with such heat and had made four changes on the first meeting, while the US switched their entire starting 11.

Lynn Biyendolo exchanged passes with Emma Sears before volleying home an 11th-minute opener, Izzy Rodriguez doubled the lead close to the break with a debut goal when following up a Sears shot parried by Courtney Brosnan.

Olivia Moultrie set up Yazmeen Ryan to make it 3-0 midway through the second half, Alyssa Thompson completing the scoring late on from a Claire Hutton cross.

Ireland’s Emily Murphy and Kyra Carusa had opportunities to score in front of the 24,000 crowd but the USA – who were registering their 600th win – now have 14 consecutive clean sheets against the Irish.

Nigeria were 3-1 winners over Ghana, with their goals coming in a 17-minute spell. Chinwendu Ihezuo’s opener was added to by an Asisat Oshoala penalty and Rasheedat Ajibade, before a late consolation from Alice Kusi’s spot-kick.

Algeria edged DR Congo with a goal from Lina Boussaha.
