Ellen White MBE, former England Women’s player and all-time top scorer for the Lionesses, has taken on a new role as an Independent Non-Executive Director on The FA WNL board for a three-year term.
Ellen White began her senior career in what is now the FA Women’s National League, spending five seasons there between 2005 and 2010, scoring 38 goals for Chelsea and Leeds Carnegie, today known as Leeds United. Her time in the league helped lay the foundations for a remarkable career which included winning the FA Women’s Premier League Cup (now the FA Women’s National League Cup), making over 300 appearances at club level and lifting the UEFA Women’s EURO trophy in 2022.
On the new role, the former forward said: “I feel incredibly proud and privileged to be joining the FA Women’s National League Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
“Women’s football has been such an important part of my life, and I’m passionate about supporting its continued growth at every level. The FA Women’s National League plays a vital role within our football pyramid, and I’m excited to work alongside my fellow Board members to champion the players, clubs, volunteers, referees and fans who make this competition so special.
“I look forward to listening, learning and contributing to a sustainable, inclusive and exciting future for the Women’s National League.”
Sue Hough MBE, Chair of The FA Women’s National League board added: “We are absolutely delighted that Ellen has joined the board, bringing so much expertise and insight, as well as an independent perspective. She will play an invaluable role in the future growth and governance of one of the most important competitions in women’s football, helping to shape the long-term success and sustainability of the women’s game. Her passion shone through at every stage of the appointment process and she will continue to be a brilliant advocate for our league.”
Alongside Ellen, the other new members of the FA Women’s National League Board are Susannah Abbot (FA Representative), Will Lambert (Club Representative, Division One South East – Queens Park Rangers) and Julian Jenkins (Club Representative, Division One South West – Gwalia United).
Together, they bring a wealth of expertise, insight and experience, alongside valuable independent and club perspectives, to support the delivery of the FA WNL Strategy ‘Where Our Game Grows’, which is funded by the Premier League.
