Rossvale Hold Onto the Pole Position with Sarah Petherick Double

Sarah Petherick’s late strike secured a 2-1 victory for Rossvale at Stirling University, keeping them at the top of the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship.

It was a closely contested game in heavy rain at the University campus, with neither side letting the conditions get in the way of playing some neat football.

Petherick’s opener had been cancelled out by Ellie Osborne and with the referee checking his watch Petherick latched onto a ball, skipped past onrushing Stirling goalkeeper Regan Ott and fired home the winner.

Bonnyrigg Rose kept pace in second with a convincing 5-1 win at home against Forfar Farmington, while Stenhousemuir moved into third with a 4-0 home win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Greenock Morton came from behind to beat bottom side Ayr United 2-1 and move into the top six in the table for the first time.

Late equalisers from Dryburgh Athletic and Dunipace earned them draws at home 2-2 against Elgin City and 3-3 against East Fife respectively.

In Barclays League One, Queen of the South came from behind to win 2-1 in Inverurie. On-loan Montrose midfielder Hannah Innes had put Locos in front early on, but Holly Ovens equalised in the 75th minute then turned provider with a cross three minutes later that Grace Gilmour forced over the line.

League leaders Bishopton enjoyed a dominant first half in Fife and beat Dunfermline Athletic 5-0, Giffnock SC won 2-1 against Airdrie at home while Cambusdoon beat Westdyke by the same scoreline in Ayr.

The Regional Scottish Women’s Football League kicked off in all four divisions, with Dundee East winning their SWFL North derby with Dundee West 4-1, Grampian defeating Buckie by the same scoreline. Edinburgh University Thistle kicked off their SWFL East campaign with a bang, beating Loanhead 8-0.
