The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Final Decided on Penalties

The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup final came down to a penalty shoot-out, with Spain narrowly edging out North Korea to claim the trophy.

Sunday’s final at Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź in Poland stayed goalless through 90+ minutes and extra time, before Spain secured their second U-20 Women’s World Cup title from the spot.

They converted all four of their penalties taken, while defending champions North Korea missed two of their five, with goalkeeper Laia López making two crucial saves.

Colombia earlier won the Bronze Final on Saturday against Italy in sudden-death penalties.

Giada Pellegrino Cimò gave the Italians the lead just before the break, Sintia Cabezas levelled after the hour mark, and with no further addition to the score even after extra time, Mercedes Martínez eventually gave Colombia a 4-3 victory in the shoot-out.

Spain’s Laia López was awarded the tournament’s Golden Glove, while teammates Rosalía Domínguez won the Golden Ball and Pau Comendador took home both the Golden Boot and Bronze Ball.

North Korea’s Ri Kuk-hyang received the Silver Ball, and Choe Yon-a earned the Bronze Boot, while the Silver Boot went to Argentina’s Annika Paz. The FIFA Fair Play Award was collected by the United States.
