Burnley Women have signed defender Jessica Hennessy from AFC Bournemouth on a one-year deal.
She started all 22 of the Cherries’ league matches last term as they narrowly missed out on a spot in the tier-three play-off, but helped the team win the FA Women’s National League Cup with a Player of the Match display in the final.
The Republic of Ireland native made her senior debut with Shamrock Rovers in December 2022 and earned the Players’ Player of the Year award and a spot in both the League of Ireland Premier Division Team of the Season and the inaugural PFA Ireland Team of the Year.
Those exploits earned the centre-back a move to Nottingham Forest, and after a year at the City Ground, she transferred to the Cherries last summer.
Hennessy said: “I’m extremely grateful. I think this is a brilliant club that I’m so lucky to be at, and I’m absolutely buzzing.
“Getting up to WSL2 was a goal for me, so to be here is massive for my career and the club’s overall goals align with mine.
“How passionate I am when I’m on the field is one of my biggest attributes, and I can be quite aggressive as well, which I think is a good thing.”
