Wolves Women were 4-0 winners over Rugby Borough on Thursday night to keep the pressure on Burnley in the FA WNL Northern Premier Division title battle.

Amber Hughes gave a perfect start for her side and the crowd of 512 at AFC Telford United, tapping home after her header had been parried by goalkeeper Poppy Soper.

It was 2-0 over third-placed Rugby after just 10 minutes, as Beth Merrick’s corner was headed home by Georgia Marshall.

Hughes pounced on a defensive error to square for Charlotte Greengrass to make it 3-0 well before half-time, and Abi Loydon completed the scoring in second-half added time.

The result moved Wanderers back to within a point of the leaders, but with just two games to go each in the bid for automatic promotion to Barclays WSL 2.
