Japan thrashed India at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, while also in Group C, Chinese Taipei edged Vietnam 1-0.
Yuzuki Yamamoto nutmegged a defender on the edge of the area before hitting an unstoppable shot into the far top corner of the Indian net. She then turned provider with a cutback that Yui Hasegawa swept home for 2-0 to Japan after just 13 minutes.
Hinata Miyazawa scored twice after being set up first by Hasegawa and then from Mina Tanaka’s clever backheel, before Kiko Seike slotted home from the spot for a 5-0 half-time lead.
Riko Ueki was an interval substitute and immediately bagged a five-minute brace, Seike doubled her tally, Maia Hijikata guided in a header and Ueki’s hat-trick goal made it 10-0.
Miyazawa also completed a treble, as Japan ended 11-0 victors and still on maximum points.
Chinese Taipei scored the only goal of the game against Vietnam to join them on three points with one group match remaining each.
Su Yu-hsuan found the net in the first half, and her side held on for the win despite heavy pressure and a stoppage-time VAR check for a penalty.
