Spurs Women pipped London City Lionesses on penalties after a 2-2 deadlock in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup to set up a quarter-final tie at Chelsea.

Spurs scored an early goal as Olivia Holdt’s pass found its way through to Matilda Vinberg, who slotted the ball past keeper Elene Lete and into the back of the net.

Nikita Parris came closest to a first-half equaliser, but her header was parried by Lize Kop and cleared from inside the far post by Tōko Koga.

Signe Gaupset scored for Tottenham but from an offside position, and the match was then quickly turned on its head.

Two substitutes immediately combined as Lucía Corrales crossed for Daniëlle van de Donk to score, and less than two minutes later, Jana Fernández struck from outside the box.

Spurs were awarded a last-gasp penalty after a handball by Teyah Goldie, and Beth England converted with the last kick to force extra time.

Further goals were not forthcoming, so it was all down to a penalty shoot-out, which went to sudden death before Spurs triumphed 9-8 with Kop’s save from Wassa Sangaré.
