Wales Women clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over Albania in the first leg of the World Cup Qualifiers Play-off Semi-final.
Wales goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel had to prevent an effort from Ezmiralda Franja going in before a 20th-minute Lily Woodham forced an own goal from Franja, which survived a VAR check.
Fortesa Berisha forced Middleton-Patel into a diving stop, and after the interval, Gresa Berisha hit the near post for Albania and Qendresa Krasniqi had the ball in the net but the offside flag had already gone up.
Hannah Cain sent a shot across the goal and wide during a swift counterattack.
Fortesa Berisha blasted over the angle of the post and bar, brave goalkeeping by Rajmonda Spihu denied Elise Hughes.
Rhian Wilkinson’s side plays the home leg on Tuesday 13 October at Llanelli, with the victors on aggregate set to meet the winners of Norway and Romania in the final.
