Wales finished their UEFA Women’s Nations League fixtures without a win after a 4-1 defeat to Italy, who took second place in the group.

Elena Linari volleyed home an early goal as Wales failed to clear a corner at the swansea.com stadium.

Manuela Giugliano’s free kick was headed into the bottom by Cristiana Girelli, who turned provider as her deflected cross was glanced over goalkeeper Olivia Clark by Sofia Cantore.

Clark then made a fine save to deny Cantore a quick second but Wales went four down in first-half added time, when Girelli did double her tally with a powerful header from Giugliano’s corner.

Jess Fishlock struck a stunning late consolation goal, beating goalkeeper Francesca Durante from 35 yards in off the crossbar.
