Northern Ireland Women won 4-2 away to Malta in World Cup Qualifying League B Group 2 despite a red card.

Ellie Mason scored first with a header from a Megan Bell corner at 40 minutes, but Maria Farrugia quickly equalised for Malta.

Mason restored the advantage with her second that was struck from distance, and Nat Johnson seemingly had the Irish in control when making it 3-1.

Rebecca Holloway went for a second caution with about 20 minutes still to play, but Leyla McFarland scored the visitors’ fourth goal before Leah Ayres pulled one back to make the final score 4-2.

The victory completed a double over Malta as Northern Ireland sit a point behind second-placed Turkiye in the table.
