SWPL 2 Play-off Finalists confirmed

SWPL play-offs

The 2024/25 SWPL 2 Play-off Final will be contested by the seventh-place finishers Rossvale and Scottish Women’s Championship runners-up, Stirling University.

The match will take place at the Albert Bartlett Stadium, Airdrie, on Friday 23 May at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale priced at just £6 for an adult and £2 concessions, available via the Airdrie FC ticketing website.

East Fife will return to the SWPL 2 next season after two seasons away, securing the Scottish Women’s Championship title in style. The University of Stirling fought off strong competition from the remaining top 6 teams in the Scottish Women’s Championship to seal second spot with a game to spare and book their place in the SWPL 2 Play-off Final.

Who they would face was only confirmed on the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2 final day as Rossvale, who despite a 5-1 defeat to Hamilton Academical, held on to 7th spot with Ayr United relegated following their final day defeat to Kilmarnock.

Fiona McIntyre, SWPL Managing Director, said: “We look forward to concluding yet another dramatic and exciting season with this play-off match. The format of the one-legged tie adds to the drama and tension of a play-off final that promises to be a fascinating encounter. With both teams fighting for the prize of SWPL 2 football next season, I have no doubt it will result in absorbing football and be a momentous occasion for all involved.

“The Albert Bartlett Stadium provides a fitting backdrop for a match of this magnitude, and I want to thank Airdrieonians FC for their support in hosting this match.”

Aileen Campbell, CEO of Scottish Women’s Football, said: “Huge congratulations to newly-crowned East Fife who will return to the SWPL for next season. I look forward to following their progress during the season ahead and wish them good luck and success in SWPL 2.

“University of Stirling have also had a brilliant season in the competitive Barclay’s Scottish Women’s Championship and will be worthy opponents to Rossvale in the play-off as they aim to return to the SWPL at the first time of asking. These games are always exciting affairs, and I have no doubt the University of Stirling will showcase the quality that teams in the Barclay’s Scottish Women’s Championship possess.”
