Stoppage-time goal keeps hosts in UEFA Women’s EURO

Switzerland needed a stoppage-time equaliser to stay in UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, Norway topped Group A with a third straight win.

Group A

Finland 1-1 Switzerland

Norway 4-3 Iceland

Switzerland left it very late to get the point they needed against Finland, to go through to the quarter-finals.

A goalless first half saw Sydney Schertenleib go close for the hosts as Anna Koivunen turned the shot away.

Swiss goalkeeper Livia Peng made a good stop to just about keep out a free kick deflected at the last moment.

With 15 minutes of the 90 to go, Viola Calligaris brought down Emma Koivisto in the box and Natalia Kuikka calmly converted from the spot to put the Finns in second place.

Into added time, the Swiss saved themselves as Geraldine Reuteler’s effort was turned in by Riola Xhemaili.

An early Sveindis Jonsdottir finish for Iceland survived a VAR check to give them the lead.

Signe Gaupset replied with a dramatic brace to turn the game in Norway’s favour, volleying in from a Vilde Boe Rise corner before the same pair combined again for a drilled finish.

Gaupset then twice turned provider as Frida Leonhardsen Maanum also bagged a brace.

Jonsdottir brilliantly set-up one for Hlin Eiriksdottir, who in added time on a penalty which Glodis Viggosdottir put away.
