Spurs Women Run Riot With 7 3 Victory at Aston Villa

Spurs Women stormed to a 7-3 Barclays WSL victory at Aston Villa, with wins also for Chelsea, Everton, and Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur took the points in a high-scoring affair at Villa Park, drawing level on points with Arsenal but having played two more games. 

Signe Gaupset whipped the ball home at the far post from Julie Blakstad’s pass, Kirsty Hanson was sent through by Noëlle Maritz to level for Villa, only for Beth England’s deflected effort to loop in and restore the lead.

Olivia Holdt squeezed in a third before the half-hour. Oriane Jean-François also scored with a deflected strike for Villa, but Cathinka Tandberg immediately blasted home Spurs’ fourth goal, and Maika Hamano was played through by Signe Gaupset to make it 5-2.

Hanson doubled her tally for Villa from a Lynn Wilms cross, but Tandberg capped a sweeping move with her second goal, and Julie Blakstad nodded in Matilda Vinberg’s corner for 7-3.

Third-placed Chelsea defeated Liverpool with a goal in each half.

Sjoeke Nüsken got the breakthrough for Chelsea after 40 minutes, with Lauren James setting up the close-range opportunity. James got the second half, helped by Veerle Buurman at 65 minutes.

Manchester United had to come from behind to beat London City Lionesses and hold second spot.

Nikita Parris headed City in front from Freya Godfrey’s cross, Jess Park firing the equaliser from outside the box.

Approaching the last 10 minutes, Millie Turner had United 2-1 up thanks to Maya Le Tissier’s free kick.

Everton edged West Ham to move up to eighth place and level on points with Brighton in seventh.

Honoka Hayashi was set up by Hannah Blundell for a tap-in after eight minutes, which proved to be the only goal.
