Spurs Women Go Third Aston Villa Women Claim First Win

Spurs Women beat Brighton 1-0 to go third in the Barclays WSL, Aston Villa Women claimed their first win when away to West Ham.

Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Brighton lifted them above Manchester United to third place in the table.

Cathinka Tandberg put Spurs ahead with what was the top-flight’s only first-half goal of the day, slotting in a cross from Jess Naz as she came in at the far post.

Spurs are now level on points with Manchester City and one behind leaders Chelsea, Brighton stay in sixth position.

Aston Villa scored two second half goals at West Ham to register their win of the season.

Kirsty Hanson made the breakthrough on the hour for Villa, assisted by Mynn Wilms.

Seven minutes later, Wilms put her free kick into the top corner to double the lead.

Villa are eighth with a game in hand, the Hammers bottom after five defeats.

London City Lionesses defeated Liverpool with a penalty in the dying minutes.

Jenna Clark deflected an Izzy Goodwin shot onto the post and Liverpool survived a subsequent scramble in the six-yard box.

Grace Geyoro missed a double chance for London City, with the successive chances both blocked.

Liverpool goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe got a crucial touch to Kosovare Asllani’s effort, but later conceded a penalty for a challenge on Nikita Parris and Elena Linari converted via the underside of the crossbar.

While London City are up to seventh, Liverpool are without a point from their four games.

Leicester City levelled in the latter stages to earn a home draw with Everton.

Everton struck on the break six minutes into the second half, Ornella Vignola with the finish.

Noémie Mouchon equalised in the last 10 minutes of the 90, after being picked out by Sam Tierney.

The Toffees remain goal-difference ahead of the Foxes in ninth spot.
