Spain had to come from behind to beat Italy and finish top of their UEFA Women’s EURO group on maximum points.

Group B:

Italy 1-3 Spain

Portugal 1-1 Belgium

Spain soon overcame a setback against Italy to take the win, as both sides now progress to the quarter-finals.

Italy were ahead inside 10 minutes against Spain, Elena Linari had already headed against the bar before a failed clearance gave Elisabetta Oliviero the chance to fire past the keeper.

Within five minutes the scores were levelled, Athenea del Castillo with the finish after Alexia Putellas backheeled the ball through to her.

Spain had two big escapes moments apart, an offside decision preceding what looked to be a handball in the box and Barbara Bonansea unable to direct a free header on target.

Four minutes after the restart Spain had turned it round, Patri Guijarro punishing a poor clearance with a finish from 20 yards.

Spain keeper Adriana Nanclares pushed away a deflected Sophia Cantore effort, Laura Giuliani did likewise from an Aitana Bonmati curler.

Esther Gonzalez made it 3-1 in added time from a Putellas cross into the box.

Belgium were pegged back late on by Portugal, had a stoppage-time goal ruled out before their 96th-minute winner.

Tessa Wullaert gave Belgium the lead against Portugal from Jill Janssens’ cross, in only the third minute.

Ana Capeta could have equalised but got her lob all wrong as goalkeeper Lisa Lichtfus closed her down.

Mariam Toloba seemed to have doubled Belgium’s advantage but an on-screen check ruled it out.

Then with three minutes of the 90 left, Kika Nazareth played in Telma Encarnacao for the equaliser.

Amber Tysiak had a goal disallowed but teammate Janice Cayman did later get the winner.
