Sheffield United Women sign former Man Utd forward

Sheffield United Women sign Alyssa Aherne

Sheffield United sign forward Alyssa Aherne, who returns to Bramall Lane on a permanent basis after leaving Manchester United.

Aherne joined the Blades last summer and after recovering from a pre-season injury became a regular from January onwards, scoring on her debut in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup against Barclays Women’s Super League side Crystal Palace.

A product of the Manchester United academy, Aherne was part of a successful FA Youth Cup winning side, scoring twice in the final against Birmingham City.

Speaking about returning to the Blades, Aherne said: “It’s really nice to be back and see all the girls and have a bit of familiarity ahead of the new season. I’m looking forward to being back and just hoping I can play every game this season.”

Head coach Ash Thompson said: “We saw what Alyssa can do towards the end of last season and I’m really excited to both bring her back as a permanent Sheffield United player and also see how she develops with us because we know how much talent Alyssa has. I’m looking forward to working with her again because we know she has the attributes to be an important player for us moving forwards.”
