Sheffield United Women sign Emma Taylor

Sheffield United have signed promising young defender Emma Taylor from Blackburn Rovers.

Taylor, who was named Rovers’ Player of the Season in the Barclays Women’s Championship last term, signs a one-year deal with an option of a further year to 2027.

The centre-back is a product of the Rovers academy where she started her career at the age of eight before moving onto Liverpool in 2015 and then Manchester United in 2021, where she was part of a successful U-21 side.

Taylor then returned to Blackburn in 2023 and across the past two seasons made 27 appearances in the second tier.

The former England youth team defender said: “I’m really excited to be here. It’s a new challenge for me and one I’m looking forward to and it will be good to get in with the girls soon. I know a few faces, which always helps, but just looking forward to representing the club.”

Head coach Ash Thompson commented: “Emma was a key target for us early in the summer so I’m really delighted to have added her to the backline. She had a really impressive campaign last season, culminating in being named Blackburn’s Player of the Season and I think the qualities she possesses, as well as plenty of time to develop further, will see her become a really valuable addition to our defensive unit ahead of the new season.”
