Seven-Goal Peterborough United Women Stay Top of the Table

Peterborough United Women stayed top of the FA WNL Division One Midlands table on goal-difference with a 7-3 win away to Northampton Town.

Hull City jumped three places to fifth in the Northern Premier with a victory at Loughborough, who dropped into the bottom two on goal difference. Sophie Haywood broke the deadlock just before the hour mark and Hope Kight scored directly from a corner.

Gwalia United and Cheltenham moved up to sixth and seventh respectively in the Southern Premier after their 1-1 draw. Gwalia’s Cori Williams-Mills cancelled out Emily Owen’s penalty in added time.

Niamh Reynolds hit a hat-trick, and substitute Jessica Stanford bagged a brace as Peterborough ran out 7-3 winners at Northampton to remain top of Division One Midlands. Barnsley Women beat Sheffield FC and Boldmere came from behind to see off Sutton Coldfield with a Leonie Joyce goal to both stay level on points with the Posh. Leafield’s 4-1 victory over Stourbridge kept them within three points of the leading trio, while Notts County netted five at Lincoln United to climb four places to fifth.

Chorley defeated Blackburn 6-2, climbing to fifth in Division One North, while Durham Cestria managed a 2-2 draw at Chester-le-Street, moving out of the bottom two. Grace MacKie completed the turnaround for Durham in 89 minutes, only for Katie Ellison to immediately equalise.

Mid-table Actonians won away against third-placed London Bees in Division One South East as substitute Azwa Chaudhry grabbed the decider, while Luton secured a 4-1 victory at Chesham led by a Tasha Fensome treble.

Bridgwater edged a seven-goal thriller with Marine Academy in Division One South West, as each side converted stoppage-time penalties. Portishead picked up their first point at the seventh attempt, away to Keynsham.
