Portsmouth Women, down to ten players, scored two late goals at Sunderland to secure a dramatic 3-2 Barclays WSL 2 victory.

Durham 1-1 Newcastle United
Bristol City 7-0 Ipswich Town
Charlton Athletic 2-1 Southampton
Crystal Palace 1-2 Sheffield United
Sunderland 2-2 Portsmouth

Sunderland were stunned by ten-player Portsmouth, who clinched all three points in stoppage time to sit just goal-difference behind them. Emily Scarr capped a quick break with a close-range finish to put the Black Cats ahead, only for Meg Hornby to reply just five minutes later. Eleanor Dale set up Scarr to double her tally approaching the last 10 minutes. Pompey’s Sophie Barker was dismissed, but not only did Jessie Gale bring them level in added time but Hornby got her second and decisive goal.

Charlton Athletic remained in pole position with a victory over Southampton. Amalie Thestrup fired the Addicks in front from outside the box, Jodie Hutton scored the second with a free kick, Tara Bourne got a stoppage-time consolation goal for the Saints.

Bristol City thrashed basement side Ipswich Town to go second in the table. Bristol made it a bruising start for Ipswich with three goals in the first 15 minutes, Sophie Ingle, Rio Hardy, and Lexi Lloyd-Smith all finding the net. Maria Farrugia got the fourth before half-time, Ingle and Hardy each added their second goals of the game, while Isabel Hebard grabbed a late seventh.

Goals were exchanged in the derby match during the first quarter of an hour, as Durham drew with Newcastle United. Jordan Nobbs helped Molly Pike secure an early goal for United, but Durham equalised five minutes later, with Mollie Lambert scoring with assistance from Poppy Pritchard.

Sheffield United took the points 2-1 at Crystal Palace to move up to sixth spot. Jess Reavill headed Sheffield into an early lead from Abbie Lafayette’s cross, Amy Andrews doubling the advantage from a counter attack with the help of Charlie Devlin. Kirsty Howat’s strike had Palace back in it after the restart but that was the final goal.
