Peterborough United Women Secure Promotion to the Third Tier

Peterborough United Women clinched the FA WNL Division 1 Midlands title with a 5-0 win away to Kidderminster Harriers.

Burnley sank Hull City 7-0 in the Northern Premier Division to head into the final day a point clear of Wolves, who won 3-1 at Stoke City. West Brom went down to Derby County at The Hawthorns, while Halifax drew with Loughborough Lightning, a result that saw Sporting Khalsa relegated.

Plymouth Argyle are a point from securing the Southern Premier Division runners-up spot after AFC Bournemouth lost to Real Bedford at the Vitality Stadium, as Melis Mehmet got the decider. AFC Wimbledon’s 2-0 victory over Exeter City in front of over 1,000 fans saw them climb out of the drop zone on goal difference at the expense of Cheltenham Town.

Huddersfield Town netted nine at Blackburn Rovers to reclaim the Division One North top spot from Leeds United, who slipped to a defeat against Norton – watched by over 4,000 at Elland Road – after Bianca Owens’ late penalty. Cheadle Town put six past York City to boost their chances of a top-two finish, while Chester le Street Town are two points from danger but could have been more secure after letting a 3-0 halftime lead slip against Stockport County.

Division One Midlands champions were confirmed as Peterborough United with two games to spare, following a 5-0 result at Kidderminster Harriers where Niamh Connor contributed a quick first-half brace. Leafield Athletic maintained a single-point advantage over Boldmere in the battle for the play-off place, the Mikes winning at Stourbridge who are now all but set for a bottom-two finish.

Among the Division One South East results, Fulham celebrated their title with a 3-0 defeat of Luton Town at Craven Cottage, while Queens Park Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by London Bees at Loftus Road.

Division One South West title rivals clash on 26 April for the decider, with Moneyfields holding a one-point lead over Swindon Town after both won their penultimate matches. Keynsham Town condemned Worthing to last place and Portishead Town finished next to bottom.
