Morocco had been less than 30 minutes away from winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time and on home turf, before Nigeria launched a dramatic late three-goal turnaround.
Tournament topscorer Ghizlane Chebbak curled home the opening goal from outside the box past WAFCON 2025’s Best Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and Sanaa Mssoudy doubled the lead midway through the first half.
A pitchside monitor check for handball on 64 minutes resulted in a penalty, with which Esther Okoronkwo put Nigeria back in the match.
Okoronkwo then turned provider inside the last 20 minutes for Folashade Ijamilusi to equalise.
Morocco were also awarded a spot-kick for handball in the box but after the referee was again referred to the monitor, the decision was overturned.
With a couple of minutes of the 90 left, Okoronkwo played her part again, delivering for Jennifer Echegini to bundle the ball over the line.
Rasheedat Ajibade was presented the Player of the Tournament honour, beaten semi-finalists South Africa won the Fair Play award.
