The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has a new champion after Cameroon won the 2026 edition final 3-0 against Malawi.
It was Cameroon’s first victory at a WAFCON final after three previous attempts, and they took just 20 minutes to get their first-ever goal at the last hurdle.
Grâce Davila saw her attempt turned onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Mercy Sikelo, but Marie Ngah Manga followed up to score.
The lead was doubled by the half-hour mark, as Naomi Eto swivelled to cleverly hook home Achta Njoya’s corner kick.
Tournament debutants Malawi had their hopes of a fairy-tale success well and truly destroyed as the Indomitable Lionesses added a third goal by half-time.
Eto beat keeper Sikelo to the ball and provided an inch-perfect cross for Ngah Manga to double her tally.
For Cameroon, it had been a dream finals, as they were only included after the number of participants was increased from 12 to 16 late in the day, having missed out on initial qualification.
Ngah Manga was in a four-way tie for tournament top scorers on five goals, alongside Ivory Coast’s Inès Konan, Malawi’s Temwa Chaŵinga, and Zambia’s Barbra Banda.
Player of the Tournament was Monique Ngock from Cameroon, while her teammate Michaely Bihina earned the Best Goalkeeper honour, and Algeria took home the Fair Play award.
