Ipswich Town Women made the deadline-day signing of Mary McAteer on a season-long loan from Charlton Athletic.

The versatile forward signed for Charlton last summer and played a key role in helping the Addicks secure promotion to the WSL.

A Wales international with nine caps, McAteer has made over 75 WSL2 appearances and played for Aston Villa, Coventry United, and Sunderland.

Sean Burt, Technical Director, told itfc.co.uk: “This opportunity came about late in the day, but as soon as we became aware Mary could potentially be available, we were determined to do everything we could to bring her to the club.

“As a promotion winner and Welsh international, she brings a wealth of experience to the group, while her style of play and attacking qualities are something we’re sure will excite our supporters.”

McAteer said: “It has all happened quite quickly but as soon as the opportunity came about I just knew I wanted to get the deal done.

“I think I can bring some attacking flair to the team as well as hard work and grit. I always make sure that nothing’s left out on the pitch when I play.”
