High-scoring in the Barclays WSL, Man United Women have a one-goal deficit to overturn against SK Brann to reach the UWCL League Phase.
Thursday’s 7pm kick-off at Leigh Sports Village (live on MUTV) sees the hosts trailing 1-0 from last week’s first leg in Norway but having scored nine goals in their two league games to date.
Brann go into the tie with a dozen victories in a row, conceding just twice in the last 13 games and sitting seven points clear in the Toppserien, which is in the latter stages of the campaign.
United are waiting for news on Millie Turner who was stretchered off on Sunday, while Hannah Blundell’s return from injury saw her play for the Under-21s last week.
Head coach Marc Skinner told MUTV: “At Brann, I felt we were the better team and we just didn’t take our chances. It bodes well that we’ve gone into the weekend and we’ve took our chances, but I want more.
“I want to see this togetherness, this unique team go and face a great challenge in front of our fans because that’s going to be the most important thing for us.
“We’re going to give it our all and hopefully be excited by the outcome, while taking nothing for granted.”
Victors in the third round qualifier will go into the hat at 11am this Friday with the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Chelsea, Juventus, OL Lyonnes, Paris Saint-Germain and Wolfsburg.
The losing side will later join the Europa Cup, in which Glasgow City are hopeful of coming through the First Qualifying Round as they take a 3-0 lead to Athlone Town tonight (Wednesday 17 September), while Hibernian are 4-1 behind to Inter Milan ahead of their second leg at Easter Road. The draw for the next round is at 2pm on Friday.
