Hearts and Rangers Bow Out of the Women’s Europa Cup

Hearts and Rangers exited the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup to Real Sociedad and Hammarby respectively.

Runners-up last season, Hammarby scored through Anna Walter, Ída Marín Hermannsdóttir, and Fanny Peterson for a 5-0 aggregate victory.

After a goalless home tie, Hearts fell behind 19 minutes into their away leg in Real Sociedad to a Laura Camino goal. The task for the Scottish champions became much harder as Paula Fernández converted from the spot and Ainoa Campo made it 3-0 before the break. Ainhoa Marin added a fourth for the Spanish hosts in the second half.

Rosenborg overcame a 3-1 first-leg deficit against Slovan Liberec to advance 5-4, with Synne Aunehaugen heading home the decisive goal in the 85th minute.

The draws for the Round of 16 and beyond will take place at 12pm BST on Friday, 2 October.
