Everton Women get Martina Fernandez back on permanent deal from Barca

Everton have brought central defender Martina Fernandez back on a permanent deal from Barcelona, for an undisclosed fee.

During her loan spell last term, the Spain U-23 international was named Everton’s Young Player of the Season by manager Brian Sorensen and his coaching staff.

Fernandez told evertontv: “I’m so happy. The past five months were amazing because of everyone: the girls, the fans – everyone. So I couldn’t say no at the chance to come back.

“It is so nice because I am good friends with both and we know a lot about each other on and off the pitch. I am so excited to start playing with them.”

Brian Sorensen told evertofc.com: “Signing Martina on a permanent deal was one of our priorities this summer so we are delighted to have her back at Everton.

“As she showed last season, Martina is a brilliant player and also a great person. Despite her young age, she is a real leader and I admire the way she plays football and wants to improve.

“She is aggressive and strong, yet has a calmness to her passing and decision-making. I am so pleased she is back home and believe she will help the new signings settle in at the club.”
